Long-established South Hams law firm Windeatts is set to untangle more of Devon's legal problems with the appointment of two new partners and a new solicitor.
Based in Totnes and Kingsbridge, Windeatts has been a familiar presence in the area since the early 1800s. Now the firm is increasing its pool of legal brains in order to provide a more comprehensive array of services to local businesses and individuals.
New solicitor Steve Waters (centre, above) joined Windeatts this summer, specialising in commercial property transactions ranging from commercial Landlord & Tenant through to sales and purchases in the leisure sector. Steve is based at the Totnes office and has a vast range of commercial experience.
The two new partners are Wendy Harris (right, above) and Nicola Campbell (left, above). Wendy Harris joined the firm in 2003 and is to be appointed partner in the Litigation department in Totnes, dealing with Personal Injury as well as all aspects of Employment Law. With a background in marketing and graphic design, Wendy will also take charge of Windeatts' marketing strategy.
“I'm really pleased to be appointed partner at Windeatts,” says Wendy. “We're a friendly bunch here and I think the most approachable of law firms. We are genuine people who just want to do a good job and help local people and businesses in any way we can.”
Before joining Windeatts, Wendy worked in Exeter and Newton Abbot and has been in Litigation for the past ten years. She is also a Senior Litigator of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers.
The second new partner, Nicola Campbell, joined the Kingsbridge office in 2008 and specialises in residential and commercial property. Originally from Belfast, where she qualified as a solicitor, she worked for some years in London before moving to Devon.
What the three share, according to managing partner Fiona Hughes, is their approachability. “Our clients rely on us in what can often be complicated, stressful or difficult times, and we are proud of our reputation of being friendly and sympathetic to individual needs,” says Hughes.
“Wendy, Nicky and Steve bring a wealth of experience, knowledge and commercial awareness, but at the same time have that all-important quality of being able to inspire confidence and trust.”
The appointments will help Windeatts uphold its strong reputation in the South Hams for the foreseeable future. “We have a long history in both Totnes and Kingsbridge,” says Fiona Hughes. “It's important to us that we're able to provide high quality legal services to businesses and individuals for years to come.”

Windeatts Solicitors, one of the oldest firms of solicitors in the South Devon with offices in Totnes and Kingsbridge, has invested in a new server and IT system that allows the firm to streamline its working practices.
The firm has been supported in this new development by Francis Clark Computing Technologies.
Windeatts was founded in 1832 and is one of the leading legal firms in the area. Its legal teams specialise in a number of areas of law including property, probate, crime, wills, divorce and family and accident claims.
Until recently the firm had managed its own IT, but as the business has grown and the IT system has expanded, it looked to Francis Clark Computing Technologies to install a new system and provide valuable ongoing support.
Chris Kendall is a partner at Windeatts. He said: "With two offices and 32 members of staff, it was vital that we updated our IT systems to manage our ongoing workload and our expected growth. As well as operating from two sites, our clients are based all over the UK so it was important that we had in place a system that would help us to meet their requirements most effectively."
He added: "We called in Francis Clark Computer Technologies because the business has a track record in providing IT systems and support for professional service firms. The introduction of new technology has gone very smoothly and we could not have done it without them. By successfully managing our IT needs, Francis Clark Computing Technologies has left us free to do what we do best: providing a first rate legal service focussed on our clients' individual needs"
Phil Mortimer, managing director at Francis Clark Computing Technologies, commented: "We were delighted to have been able to support Windeatts by introducing an IT system that not only addresses the current needs of the firm, but which also covers it for future expansion. The firm now has a new server with improved network support."
Windeatts Solicitors of South Devon is investing in new IT systems which the firm expects to result in improved service and savings to clients.
Established in 1832, Windeatts remains one of the leading firms of solicitors in South Devon offering a wide range of legal services to private and business clients from offices in Totnes and Kingsbridge.
The investment in the new system supplied by Solicitors Own Software of Bath, replaces disparate systems at the two offices and provides the impetus for modernising business processes and improving efficiency.
Windeatts evaluated several software solutions, but chose SOS Connect because of its flexibility and ability to tailor the system to exact requirements. Several local firms, who also use SOS Connect, provided excellent references. Another key advantage was the subscription payment model offered by SOS, which has enabled the law firm to reap the benefit of the software without a large upfront capital outlay.
Partner Chris Kendall and Practice Manager Andrew Baumback have attended the SOS scripting course, and they are now tailoring workflows, templates and business processes which will become uniform across the firm. SOS is converting the data from the existing two systems and SOS Connect will start to roll out to all staff in August 2009.
"This is yet another success for SOS Connect among firms needing to update their systems to take advantage of integration and a modern architecture that responds quickly to individual requirements and changes in the market," says David McNamara, managing director of SOS,. "We are looking forward to assisting Windeatts in meeting their efficiency and customer service goals."
