Criminal

Expert help when you need it

Whatever your circumstance we can help

Whether you have been asked to attend a police station for interview; have been arrested and are to be interviewed; have been summonsed to Court for an offence; have been charged to Court with an offence; wish to change Solicitors; wish to appeal against a conviction or a sentence; or simply need general advice about a Criminal related matter then call us. We are here to help.

Nigel Butt has been doing Criminal Defence work since 1989 and has experience in every type of Criminal case. He has dealt with the most serious murder enquiries to the most minor road traffic offence and every manner of allegation in between.

He has an acquittal rate of over 90% in the Magistrates Courts and is able to offer assistance whatever your circumstances are.

In many cases, including all police station attendances, you will be entitled to advice, assistance and representation, free of charge. In cases where Legal Aid is not available, or you do not qualify, our private charging rates are highly competitive, and if your case is pursued to a successful conclusion, it is likely that most if not all of the costs incurred will be recoverable and refundable to you.

Your initial meeting with us, where we look at your case and offer initial advice, will be free.

Windeatts offer a local, personal service from lawyers with many years experience in Criminal Law. Our team will carry out all the work on your case personally, rather than supervising unqualified members of staff. You will receive a top quality and consistent service that you can trust.

Our Criminal team consists of Nigel Butt, who is one of the most experienced Criminal lawyers in the South Hams. He regularly attends police station interviews, presents cases in the Magistrates Court, and deals with matters in the Crown Court. His assistant, Kerry Ahir, is a qualified lawyer, and regularly deals with cases at the police station and at the Crown Court.

As a firm we defend and do not prosecute. We represent the individual rather than the state. We are committed to trying to redress the power of the state by working extra hard, and going the extra mile, to ensure you receive the best possible advice assistance and representation that can be provided. Often cases turn on what may appear to be rather small and insignificant points. It is crucial that all necessary work is undertaken to obtain the evidence that may be required to achieve a successful outcome.

If you think you need legal advice, assistance, or representation, Nigel Butt and Kerry Ahir are the experts to have on your side.

Between them they have more than 25 years experience in dealing with Criminal cases. Nigel has been practicing in the local Magistrates Courts since 1989 and has an LLB with honours as well as a BSc with honours. He is a recognised Criminal Law expert with the Law Society. Kerry is an accredited police station representative and has an LLB with honours. To back them up they have a team of professional and dedicated Barristers who are ready willing and able to offer their additional skill and experience in the Crown Court in cases where an experienced Barrister is an asset. We do not seek to scrimp and save whilst dealing with your case by avoiding to instruct a Barrister when it is appropriate.
