Probate and Estate Administration

Administering the estate of a family member or friend can be a daunting and time-consuming task. Although those administering the estate are entitled to act personally, the amount of work required will often mean that it will be more efficient and certainly more straightforward to seek professional advice and assistance. Windeatts have years of experience of acting for executors and administrators of estates, and we pride ourselves on our personal and sympathetic service. We will help you through each step, including:

  • Identifying and valuing the assets and liabilities of the estate
  • Completing the required HM Revenue & CustomsReturn and paying any Inheritance Tax due
  • Placing notices to protect those administering the estate from personal liability
  • Preparing the Court application for the Grant of Probate or Letters of Administration
  • Upon receipt of the grant of representation, collecting in the assets and paying any liabilities
  • Finalising the Income Tax affairs of the person who has died
  • Liaising with the Beneficiaries and distributing the estate
  • Advising on Deeds of Variation, altering the distribution of the estate for tax- planning or other purposes
  • Drawing up Estate Accounts and tax certificates
  • Dealing with any disputes that may arise in relation to the Will

We provide full information to those administering the estate throughout the process and take and act upon their instructions so they can remain as actively involved as they wish. We have established relationships with House clearers, Auctioneers, Estate Agents, Stockbrokers, Accountants and Independent Financial Advisors and are happy to provide recommendations to suit your particular needs.
